Dysport is an FDA-approved injection treatment used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing facial muscles in the forehead. Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport is injected directly into the site of wrinkles to prevent the underlying muscles from contracting. Dysport injections are made from the bacterium Clostridum botulinum, the same protein used in Botox® injections.
Facial fillers are injections which fill out wrinkled or uneven areas of the face. They include Perlane, Juvaderm, Radiesse, and Sculptra and even your own tissues taken from another part of your body.
Many of us notice fine lines developing on the face in our thirties. These can often be the result of muscular activity or sagging. The lines that form on your face are areas where the bodys’ own collagen has thinned and broken leaving a depressed line. The wrinkles around the eye can often be due to muscle activity and may be improved with BOTOX or Dysport. If the lines are very deep or are due to skin sagging e.g. the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds), then a filler may often soften or sometimes even eliminate the line. The filler is injected into the skin itself to plump up the depressed line in the skin. When the lips are injected the doctor places the filler on the inside of the lip to turn it out a little.
Acne Treatments
Acne is the term for the blocked pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that can appear typically on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Seventeen million Americans currently have acne, making it the most common skin disease in the country. While it affects mostly teenagers, adults of any age can have it. Acne is not life-threatening, but it can cause physical disfigurement (scarring) and emotional distress. Treatment varies depending on the type and severity of lesions, skin type and the patient’s age and lifestyle, but on average results are visible in six to eight weeks. Options include: laser resurfacing, soft tissue fillers and fat transfer, punch excisional surgery for deep "ice-pick" pitted scarring, and dermabrasion and microdermabrasion. Patients with mild acne can supplement treatment at home by washing with warm water and a mild soap twice a day and/or using a topical over-the-counter acne medication.
Fraxel Dual Restore
Fraxel restore is the original Fraxel laser product, a fractionated Erbium laser that works at 1550 nanometer wavelength. It is non-ablative, heats the skin in pixilated columns that results in collagen stimulation over time, resulting in improvement of fine to moderate lines and wrinkles, and improvement in skin pigmentation (as well as tone and texture). The older Fraxel restore required a series of treatments (4-6) separated by about 2 to 3 weeks. The Dual's 1550 has been modified to be faster, more effective, and more comfortable than the prior Fraxel restore laser. Usually patients will require 3 instead of 4 treatments with this laser as compared to the previous version. It is also effective for the treatment of acne, traumatic, and surgical scars.
Fraxel Dual laser adds another laser to the restore laser. The new wavelength is 1927 nanometers; it is a Thulium laser (say that a few times in a row). 1927nm is very specific and effective at treating brown pigment including sun damage lentigines (sun spots), aging spots, and studies are being conducted for the treatment of melasma. In a single treatment, remarkable clearance of pigment occurs within 7 to 10 days. The treatment is very tolerable, either with or without numbing cream. The face as well as the entire body can be treated. Unlike IPL treatments, usually 1 to 2 treatments are all that are necessary for fresh rosy skin.
Patients also like the comfort, quickness, and uniform application of the laser. Solta, the company that makes Fraxel, will not be offering stand-alone Fraxel restore units. They will only be selling the "Fraxel restore Dual". Another advantage of the Dual is that the two laser treatments can be combined at the same treatment session for those patients who desire a deeper treatment for collagen stimulation along with eradication of brown spots.
We believe that Fraxel restore Dual will be a very popular treatment, especially here in California. Many of the first patients treated have been actresses, treating their face, chest, and hands. Patients are extremely happy and excited with their fresh new skin. The big question is how long will the results last? That will depend on the individual patient, their sun protection habits (including clothing, hats, physical sun block, etc.), and in melasma patients their hormone levels (which should be normal at the time of treatment).

Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion improves mild to moderate sun damage, scarring, wrinkles and other superficial skin problems. A gentle stream of tiny particles exfoliates the outer layer of skin and provides a fresh, glowing, younger appearance. The particles scrape away the surface layer of aging or damaged skin, which is then brushed off with the microdermabrasion vacuum tool with no need for anesthesia. Only a small amount of skin is removed, so sensitive areas such as the face, chest, neck, arms and hands can be treated. Results are comparable to a light chemical peel and should be immediately visible. Microdermabrasion is often performed in conjunction with other skin renewal procedures, such as laser treatment and chemical peels. Multiple treatments are recommended for full effect.
What is the MicroLaserPeel?
It is a minimal to full epidermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, keratoses,or pigmentation problems.
Who should consider a MicroLaserPeel?
The patient looking for better results than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels can offer, yet, still has little time for the healing process.
How is the MicroLaserPeel different from Microdermabrasion?
Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the outer layer (stratum corneum, 10-15 microns) of the skin. Patients may become dissatisfied when the perceived results do not equal expense and the number of procedures required. The MicroLaserPeel is a minimal to full epidermal peel (20-50 microns). Because this procedure goes deeper into the epidermis, it is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper peels.
